01Getting started

What do I need to use the app?

An iPhone or iPad running iOS 18.6 or iPadOS 18.6 or later. Math Rocket Lab is an iPhone and iPad app. There is no account to create and no sign-in.

Does it cost anything?

Math Rocket Lab contains no advertising. Check the App Store listing for current pricing.

How do I start my first round?

The screen you land on when you open the app is where you set up a round.

1. Under “1. Enter the number of expressions:”, tap 10, 25, 50 or 100. That is how many questions the round will contain.
2. Under “2. Select the type of mathematical expression:”, tap the operations you want: +, −, ×, ÷. You can pick more than one.
3. Tap Start.

A short 3–2–1 countdown appears, then the first expression.

Do my choices stick for next time?

Yes. Your round length and your chosen operations are saved the moment you tap them, so the next time you open the app they are already set the way you left them. The same is true for everything in Settings.

Why can't I turn off the last operation?

A round needs at least one operation to draw questions from, so the app keeps the final one selected. Tap a different operation first, then turn off the one you don't want.

Why doesn't the screen rotate?

Math Rocket Lab is designed for portrait use on both iPhone and iPad, so it stays in portrait. On iPad it also runs full screen rather than in Split View or Slide Over.

02Playing a round

How do I enter an answer?

Use the number pad at the bottom of the screen. There is no submit button — as soon as you have typed the right number of digits, the app checks your answer and moves you on if it is correct.

What do the three numbers at the top mean?

• Expression — how many questions you have finished, out of the total in the round.
• Timer — how long the round has been running.
• Error — how many mistakes you have made, out of the five allowed. It starts at 0 and counts up.

How many mistakes am I allowed?

Five per round. When you reach the fifth, the round ends and you will see an “Out of Errors” message along with what you managed to solve.

What does the Skip key do?

Skip is the key in the bottom-left corner of the number pad. It gives up on the question you are looking at and moves you to the next one. A skip counts as one error, exactly like a wrong answer, and it is recorded as incorrect on your results.

What happens when I get one wrong?

That depends on your Wrong answer behavior setting:

• Skip — the app moves on to the next expression, and you will see the mistake on the results screen.
• Repeat — the app keeps showing you the same expression until you get it right.

Either way the mistake counts toward your five errors. You can change this any time in Settings → “2. Wrong answer behavior:”.

Can I leave in the middle of a round?

Yes. Tap the back arrow in the top-left corner. The clock pauses and you will be asked “Leave Game?” — tap Cancel to carry on where you left off, or OK to leave. Leaving a round discards it: an unfinished round is not saved to your history and does not count toward your stats.

The expression is cut off, or the layout looks cramped

The play screen packs a lot into one view. At very large text sizes the app scales the text but limits how far it grows on this particular screen so the number pad still fits. If something is genuinely unreadable on your device, please email us with your device model and text size setting.

03Your results

What do I see when a round ends?

A message appears with your totals, and tapping OK opens the results screen. There you will find:

• A headline for how the round went.
• Solved, Mistakes and Time for the round.
• A line for every expression showing the full sum with its correct answer, the answer you gave, how long you spent on it, and a green tick or a red cross.

Tap Done in the top-right corner to return to the setup screen.

Why did I get confetti that time and not this time?

A round with every question right gets a full confetti burst. A round with 90% or better accuracy gets a lighter sparkle effect. Below that, no effect. If you use Reduce Motion, these effects are turned down automatically.

Are my results saved automatically?

Yes. Every round you finish is saved to your history on your device as soon as the results screen appears — there is nothing to tap to save it.

04Profile, skills and history

Tap the profile button in the top-right corner of the setup screen to reach all of this.

What's on the Profile screen?

• A summary card with Rounds, Solved, Mistakes and Accuracy across everything you have played.
• Your Skills — an accuracy bar for each of the four operations, with a Strongest marker on your best one and a Practice marker on the one that needs the most work.
• Buttons through to Skills Detail, Math Facts and History.

Why does my Profile say “No stats yet”?

Statistics are built from your finished rounds, so the Profile shows an empty state until you complete your first one. A round you leave early does not count.

What are the charts in Skills Detail?

One chart per operation. Each bar is a single day you practiced that operation, with the green part showing what you got right and the red part on top showing mistakes — so the height of the bar is how much you did that day. Several rounds in one day are added together into that day's bar.

Only the days you actually practiced get a bar, packed together from the left, so a gap in your practice shows up as a jump in the dates rather than an empty space. Swipe the chart sideways to look further back.

What's in History?

Every saved round, newest first, with the date, the sign used, the score and the time. Tap any round to reopen its full breakdown — the same screen you saw right after playing — so you can go back over your mistakes.

Rounds saved by older versions of the app may not have a breakdown stored. Those rows simply are not tappable.

05Math Facts and daily notifications

How do Math Facts work?

Math Rocket Lab includes a collection of 365 short facts about numbers, geometry, space, nature and more. One new fact unlocks each calendar day, starting from the day you first opened the app. After a full year you will have all 365.

Facts unlock by the calendar, not by playing — you don't have to earn them, and you can't fall behind by not playing. Open Profile → Math Facts to read everything you have unlocked so far. The ring at the top shows how far through the collection you are.

Will I miss a fact if I don't open the app that day?

No. Unlocking is worked out from the date, so every fact for every day that has passed is waiting for you whenever you next open the screen.

What is the daily notification?

If you allow notifications, Math Rocket Lab schedules one “Math Fact of the Day” reminder per day — later in the day on weekdays, and in the morning at weekends. It is a local notification created on your device. Tapping it opens the Math Facts screen.

I'm not getting the daily notification

Check, in this order:

1. Open the Settings app on your device, find Math Rocket Lab, tap Notifications, and make sure Allow Notifications is on.
2. Check Focus and Do Not Disturb — a notification that arrives during a Focus session may be held back or delivered quietly.
3. Check Scheduled Summary in Settings → Notifications. If Math Rocket Lab is included in your summary, its notification is bundled up and delivered at your summary time instead.
4. Open Math Rocket Lab once to refresh its upcoming notification schedule.

How do I turn the daily notification off?

Open the Settings app on your device, find Math Rocket Lab, tap Notifications, and turn Allow Notifications off.

Does the app ask for any other permission?

Notifications are the only permission Math Rocket Lab asks for. It does not request your location, camera, microphone, photos, contacts or motion data.

06Settings and customization

Tap the gear button in the top-left corner of the setup screen.

Difficulty

Under “1. Select the difficulty:”:

• Easy — answers up to 100.
• Medium — answers up to 1,000.
• Hard — answers up to 10,000.

You can change this whenever you like; it applies to your next round.

Wrong answer behavior

Under “2. Wrong answer behavior:” choose Skip or Repeat — see Playing a round above.

Appearance

Under “3. Appearance:” choose Light, Auto or Dark. Auto follows your device's own light/dark setting. The change applies straight away — no restart needed.

Language

Tap the Language card. System Default follows your iPhone or iPad language; below it you can pick a specific one. The app switches immediately, including the Math Facts.

Math Rocket Lab is available in Dutch, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Turkish and Ukrainian.

How to Play

At the bottom of Settings, How to Play opens a short in-app guide covering the basics, the difficulty levels, Skip vs Repeat, Math Facts and your progress. The app's version number is at the bottom of that screen — handy if you need to tell us which version you are on.

Accessibility

• Dynamic Type — text scales with your preferred reading size. On the play screen the app limits how far it grows so the number pad and expression stay usable together.
• Reduce Motion — celebration effects, count-up animations and screen transitions are simplified or skipped when it is turned on.
• VoiceOver — buttons, number pad keys, language options and the progress charts carry spoken labels, and the charts are summarized rather than read out as raw data.
• Light and Dark appearance — the app follows your device setting, or you can choose Light or Dark directly in Settings.
• Symbols as well as color — correct and incorrect answers carry a tick or a cross, not color alone.

07Troubleshooting

I finished a round but it's not in History

The most common reason is that the round was left early rather than finished. Tapping back and confirming “Leave Game?” discards the round. A round is saved when you reach the results screen — either by answering every question or by reaching five errors.

My stats disappeared

Statistics are calculated from your saved rounds, so clearing your history also clears your statistics. If you used Clear on the History screen, that is what happened. See Deleting your data.

My history is empty on my other device

Math Rocket Lab has no account and no cloud syncing, so your rounds, statistics and Math Facts progress belong to the device you played on. An iPhone and an iPad keep separate records.

The same answer keeps coming up

The app avoids repeating the same expression within a round and tries not to put two questions with the same answer next to each other. At the easier levels, though, there are only so many possible questions — division on Easy, for example, has a limited pool — so a long round of a single operation will eventually reuse some. Choosing more operations, a wider answer range (Medium or Hard), or a shorter round all increase the variety.

There's no sound

The app's sounds follow your device's silent switch and mix with other audio you are playing. Check that the silent switch isn't on and that your volume is up. The sounds are also intentionally quiet — they are small effects, not music.

08Deleting and resetting your data

• Delete a single round — on the History screen, swipe a row from right to left and tap Delete. You will be asked to confirm with “Delete Session?”.
• Delete everything at once — on the History screen, tap Clear in the top-right corner and confirm with “Clear History?”. Because your Profile statistics and Skills charts are worked out from your saved rounds, they are cleared too.
• Remove everything from a device — delete the app. That removes the data the app stored locally on that device.

Deletions cannot be undone, which is why the app confirms first.

Can I reset my Math Facts progress?

Not from inside the app. Math Facts unlock by the calendar from the day you first opened the app, and there is no in-app option to start that over.

Can you recover rounds I deleted?

No. Your rounds are stored on your device, and we operate no server that receives them, so we hold no copy to restore.

09Privacy

Math Rocket Lab keeps your practice data on your device.

• No account. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to.
• Nothing is uploaded. Your rounds, statistics, settings and Math Facts progress are stored on your device. They are not transmitted to the developer or to any third party, and the developer has no access to them.
• No analytics or tracking. The app does not use analytics, tracking, or third-party advertising services, and it does not display advertising.
• No syncing. Your data does not sync between your devices.
• One permission. Notifications, and only if you allow them. The daily fact reminders are scheduled on your device.
