01Information the app uses

Information processed on your device

To drive its instruments, the app reads data from your iPhone's built-in sensors:

• GPS location, speed, and direction of travel
• Compass and heading (magnetometer)
• Motion data from the accelerometer and gyroscope, including pitch and roll for the attitude indicator and level
• Altitude, derived from GPS
• Trip statistics calculated from the above, such as distance, duration, average and maximum speed, and altitude changes

This information is processed on your iPhone. Sensor readings power the live instrument displays, and when you record a trip, the resulting statistics and route information are saved to local storage on your device. We never receive this data, and it is not uploaded to any server we operate — we don't operate any.

Information you choose to provide

• Sharing or exporting a trip. If you export or share trip information, the content you selected is handed to the app, person, or service you choose through the standard iOS share sheet. What happens to it after that is governed by the recipient you picked.
• Contacting support. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to respond to you. We do not add support contacts to marketing lists.

Information we do not collect

• We do not require or offer user accounts.
• We do not directly collect or receive names, contacts, photos, trip history, recorded routes, or other personal information through developer-operated servers — we don't operate any. The one exception: if you email support, we receive your email address and message.
• Limited location information is processed directly by NOAA or Apple when a feature you use requires it, as explained under Third-Party Services. We never receive or store it.
• We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) or show ads.
• We do not use third-party analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs.
• We do not sell personal information. There is nothing to sell — we don't have it.

02Location Services

Smart Motion Dashboard asks for location permission because location is the core of what it does:

• Speed and distance. GPS is how the app measures how fast you are moving and how far you have traveled.
• Trip recording. Recorded trips use location to build distance, speed, and route statistics.
• Navigation-style instruments. Compass, heading, and course displays combine GPS with the magnetometer.
• Altitude. Altitude readouts are derived from GPS.
• Weather. Your position is used to find the nearest weather station and retrieve current conditions.
• Marine. Your position is used on your device to find the nearest tide station.
• Aviation. Ground speed, track, and altitude readouts rely on GPS.

You are in control of this permission. iOS asks for your consent before the app can access location, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. If you decline, the app still opens, but instruments that depend on location will show an unavailable state.

Location readings are processed on your device. Coordinates are transmitted off the device only to NOAA's weather service, to find your local weather station, and optionally to Apple's geocoding service, as described under Third-Party Services below.

If you start a trip recording, location updates can continue while the app is in the background so your recording stays complete. iOS shows an indicator while this is happening, and it ends when you pause or stop the trip.

03Motion & Sensors

The app declares Motion usage to iOS so it can read the accelerometer and gyroscope. These sensors power the attitude indicator's pitch and roll, the level, and the motion and acceleration readouts. Motion data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted anywhere. You can manage the app's access at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Motion & Fitness.

04Notifications

Smart Motion Dashboard uses local notifications only — optional Smart Recording reminders generated by the app on your device. They are off until you enable them: the app asks for notification permission only when you turn reminders on in the app's settings, and you can disable them again at any time there or in iOS Settings > Notifications. Local notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. The app uses no push notification service, and no notification content is transmitted to us or to any server.

While you record a trip, an optional Active Trip Live Activity can show the recording's status — speed, distance, duration, and GPS state — on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. It displays only snapshots the app sends it on your device and is updated locally, with no push servers involved. You can turn Live Activities off in iOS Settings.

05Trip History

Your trip history — trip statistics, the recorded route, start and finish locations with their place names, and weather conditions near the start and finish, when available — is stored locally on your iPhone. Route maps in trip details are drawn from this locally stored data. It stays there until you decide otherwise:

• You can delete individual trips from within the app at any time.
• Deleting the app (including its Live Activity extension) removes the app's data from your device.

Because the app never uploads your trip history, we cannot see it, restore it, or recover it for you. We hold no copy. Your own device backups — iCloud or computer backups — may include the app's data along with the rest of your device, and any trips you exported remain wherever you saved or sent them.

06When data may be shared

Two different kinds of information can leave your device, and they work differently.

Service requests required by features you use. When you use weather, tides, place-name lookup, or a trip's route map, limited information is sent automatically and directly from your device to NOAA or Apple to make that feature work — exactly as described under Third-Party Services. Smart Motion Dashboard does not send your trip history or recorded routes to us, and we operate no servers that could receive them.

Disclosure you direct. Your saved trip information is disclosed to another person, app, or service only when you deliberately act:

• You export or share a trip. The exported content — trip details or a route file (GPX) — goes to the destination you choose in the share sheet.
• You contact us. Your message comes to us by email.

We hold no user data on servers, so there is nothing for us to share with, sell to, or disclose to anyone else.

07Third-Party Services

The app communicates with two external providers — NOAA and Apple — each for a specific purpose. Requests go directly from your device to these providers — there are no intermediary servers, because we do not operate any.

NOAA weather (National Weather Service)

Weather conditions are provided by NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS), a public U.S. government service. To find your local weather station, the app sends your coordinates — rounded to the precision the NWS interface accepts — in a station-lookup request; current conditions are then retrieved from the resulting station using only its station ID. Requests carry no API key and no personal, device, account, or advertising identifier; they include an identifier naming the app, which NWS requires from all clients, and coordinates are never logged by the app. Observations may come from a station some distance away and can be delayed or unavailable. Weather information also depends on network connectivity and may be unavailable when your device is offline. Weather responses are cached and reused on your device, and the app limits scheduled automatic refresh requests to no more than one every five minutes. The app names its weather source under Settings > Legal; see weather.gov.

NOAA CO-OPS (tide and water-level data)

In the marine profile, tide information comes from NOAA's Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) — a separate NOAA service from the weather source above. It provides three kinds of data to the app: calculated tide predictions (high and low tides and the tide curve), observed water levels measured by NOAA tide gauges, and the directory of available tide stations. The app ships with a built-in copy of the station directory, refreshes it periodically from NOAA, and selects the nearest stations on your device. Tide data requests contain only a station ID and a generic app identifier — your coordinates are never included in tide requests. Tide responses are cached on your device. Apple geocoding service (reverse geocoding)

To show a readable place name (such as a city) for your current position or a trip's start and finish points, the app may send coordinates to Apple's geocoding service and receive a place name back. This lookup is optional and best-effort — trips record normally without it. See Apple's Location Services privacy statement.

Apple Maps (map imagery)

When you open a recorded trip's route map, the map is displayed with Apple Maps. Your device requests map imagery from Apple for the area shown; the route itself is drawn from your locally stored trip data and is not uploaded. See Apple's Maps privacy statement.

The current version of the app includes no other developer-integrated external services and no third-party SDKs — no analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or tracking frameworks of any kind.

08Data Retention & Deletion

All app data — trips, settings, and cached weather, tide, and place-name results — lives on your device:

• Trips are kept until you delete them in the app or delete the app itself.
• Cached weather and tide data expires and is refreshed automatically.
• Settings are stored locally and removed when the app is deleted.

Because we do not collect your data, there is no server-side copy to retain and nothing you need to ask us to delete. Revoking a permission in iOS Settings stops the related data access immediately. If you have any question about your data, you can still contact us — see Contact below.

09Security

Trip data stored on your device is protected by iOS security features, including app sandboxing and, when you use a device passcode, encryption at rest. Requests to Apple's services and to NOAA are made over encrypted connections (HTTPS).

No system is perfectly secure, but Smart Motion Dashboard's design reduces risk at the source: data that never leaves your device cannot be exposed by a server breach on our side, because there is no server on our side.

10Children's Privacy

Smart Motion Dashboard is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children — the app's design means we do not collect personal information at all. If you are a parent or guardian and have questions about your child's use of the app, please contact us.

11Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves — for example, if a future version adds a feature that changes how data is handled. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and, for material changes, provide notice in the app or in the App Store release notes. The current version of this policy will always be available at this address.
