Smart Motion Dashboard — Support
Smart Motion Dashboard is a GPS instrument panel for iPhone and iPad. Choose one of five Activity Profiles — Car, Motorcycle, Bicycle, Marine, or Aviation — and the center instrument, the widgets you can swipe to, the colors, and the default units all change to match. There is no account to create and no advertising. It is a reference tool, not a certified instrument: please read Safety and accuracy before relying on anything it shows.

01Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no password, and no profile.
Does it cost anything?
Smart Motion Dashboard contains no advertising. Check the App Store listing for current pricing.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone and iPad, on iOS or iPadOS 17.6 or later. The app runs in portrait on both. Some readings depend on the sensors your device has — see Location, GPS and sensors.
What happens the first time I open the app?
On a fresh install you will see four short steps, then the Dashboard:
- Choose your profile — Car, Motorcycle, Bicycle, Marine, or Aviation.
- Choose Units — Imperial, Metric, or Nautical. The step starts on the units that suit the profile you picked.
- Enable Location — a short explanation, then a Continue button that opens the standard iOS location permission alert. Allow or Don't Allow is your choice, made in the iOS alert.
- Enable Recording Reminders — optional notifications. You can tap Allow Notifications or Not Now.
Steps 3 and 4 appear only if you haven't already answered that permission. If you are updating from an earlier version of the app, you skip onboarding entirely and your existing settings are kept.
What are the five Activity Profiles?
- Car — Car Speedometer, Imperial units by default.
- Motorcycle — Motorcycle Speedometer, Imperial by default.
- Bicycle — Bike Speedometer, Imperial by default.
- Marine — Marine Compass, Nautical by default.
- Aviation — Aviation Attitude or Aviation Heading, Nautical by default.
Can I change my profile later?
Yes. Go to Settings → Dashboard → Profile. Changing the profile also switches the center instrument and resets the visible widget to that instrument's default, so the Dashboard is always in a state that makes sense.
Aviation shows an Instrument row — what is it?
Aviation is the one profile with two instruments: Aviation Attitude (an artificial horizon showing pitch and roll) and Aviation Heading (a heading indicator). Pick one in Settings → Dashboard → Instrument. The other profiles have a single instrument, so that row just shows its name.
Which units can I use?
Three unit systems, set in Settings → Units → Unit System:
- Speed — mph (Imperial), km/h (Metric), knots (Nautical; abbreviated kn in Marine and kts in Aviation — the same unit either way).
- Distance — mi, km, or nm.
- Altitude — ft, m, or ft.
- Temperature — °F, °C, or °F.
- Pressure — inHg, hPa, or hPa.
Can I mix units — metric distance but Fahrenheit, for example?
Yes. Settings → Units → Unit Overrides lets you set an exception for a single measurement. Anything without an override follows your global Unit System. The row shows “None” or how many overrides you have set.
Why did my units change when I switched profiles?
Only until you choose a unit system yourself. Before you make an explicit choice, switching to Marine or Aviation suggests Nautical, and switching to Car, Motorcycle, or Bicycle suggests Imperial. Once you pick a Unit System in Settings — or choose one during onboarding — that choice becomes an app-wide preference and a later profile change won't overwrite it.
Where do I find things in Settings?
The Settings tab has these sections: Dashboard (Profile, Instrument, level calibration, Speed Color Ring), Units (Unit System, Unit Overrides), Appearance, Location, Reminders, Live Activity, About, and Legal (Weather Data Sources, Tide Data Information).
02Location, GPS, and sensors
Why does my speed show 0?
A 0 is a real reading — it means the GPS fix says you aren't moving. That is different from an unavailable reading, which shows a dash instead of a number. If you see 0 while you are clearly moving, the fix is probably poor or very fresh; give it a few seconds outdoors and check the GPS cell at the top of the Dashboard.
What do the GPS states at the top of the screen mean?
- Strong — a recent fix with good accuracy.
- Weak — a fix, but with degraded accuracy. Speed and distance are less reliable.
- Reduced — location access is granted, but the accuracy available is degraded.
- Searching — acquiring a fix.
- Lost — the fix went away or became too old to trust.
- Needs Access — location permission hasn't been requested or answered yet.
- No Access — location access is denied or restricted for this app.
- Off — Location Services is turned off for the whole device.
My GPS stays Weak or Searching. What should I check?
- Go outside, or move away from a window, tunnel, garage, or dense buildings.
- Give it 30 to 60 seconds. A cold start takes longer than a warm one.
- Open iOS Settings → Smart Motion Dashboard → Location and confirm While Using the App is selected and Precise Location is on.
- Turn Airplane Mode on and off, or restart the device, to reset the radios.
- Remove a thick or metallic case, and take the device out of a bag or glovebox.

What happens if I deny Location?
The app still opens and you can browse it. What stops working is anything derived from your position: live speed, altitude, your place name, weather, tides, Marine Conditions, and trip recording. The heading experience doesn't run either — the compass shares the app's single Location authorization, so denying location denies heading too.
You will see a card on the Dashboard explaining the situation, and the Location section in Settings shows the same status. You can change your mind at any time — nothing is lost by declining at first.
How do I reopen iOS Settings to fix location access?
- In the app, open Settings → Location. If access is denied or Location Services is off, an Open Settings button takes you straight to the app's page in iOS Settings.
- Or open iOS Settings → Smart Motion Dashboard → Location yourself and choose While Using the App.
If Location Services is off for the entire device, that switch lives in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. The app requests While Using the App access only; it doesn't ask for Always.
Why is my heading blank, or showing “Calibrating”?
Heading needs two separate things: location access, and a settled magnetometer reading.
- Location access. The compass shares the app's single Location authorization. If location access is denied or restricted, the app doesn't run its heading experience at all — grant access first, then come back to the Dashboard.
- Settling and interference. Once access is granted, the magnetometer still needs a moment. Magnets, metal mounts, some cases, speakers, and wireless chargers can disturb it. Move the device away from those, then wave it in a slow figure-eight.
Why does my heading sometimes lose the “true” reading?
- Magnetic heading is measured relative to magnetic north. Once location access is granted and the compass is running, a magnetic heading can be available even before the app has current location information.
- True heading is measured relative to geographic north. Working it out requires current location information, so it stays unavailable until the app has some. It isn't estimated from the magnetic heading or filled in with a placeholder number.
The Marine Conditions headwind/crosswind line needs a true heading specifically, because NOAA reports wind bearings in degrees true. Until a true heading is available, that one line shows a placeholder while the rest of the widget keeps working. If Location Services is off for the whole device, or the device has no magnetometer, heading is reported as unavailable rather than guessed.
Why do pitch, roll, or the attitude horizon say unavailable?
Those readings come from the device's motion sensors. If the device can't supply them, the app shows Attitude unavailable or Motion is unavailable on this device instead of a number. This is unrelated to location access — motion and location are separate.
Why do readings change when I move the phone?
The Level widget and the attitude instrument measure the device's orientation, not the vehicle's. If the phone shifts in its mount, the numbers shift with it.
To make the readings relative to your vehicle instead, use Settings → Dashboard → Calibrate Vehicle Level (or Boat Level / Aircraft Level). Put the phone in its mount, hold the vehicle in the position you want treated as level, hold still, and tap Calibrate. The widget's caption then reads “Relative to set level” instead of “Relative to device”. Reset Calibration returns it to a device-relative reading.
Speed, distance, and altitude come from GPS and don't depend on how the device is held.
Does this work the same on iPad?
- GPS. Apple's Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad models include GPS. Wi-Fi-only iPad models do not have built-in GPS and rely on Wi-Fi for Location Services, so live speed and route recording will be far less useful on them.
- Other sensors. Heading and attitude depend on the sensors your device has. Where a sensor isn't present, the app reports the reading as unavailable rather than showing an invented value.
“Unavailable” versus zero — what's the difference?
A number, including 0, is a real measurement: a stationary vehicle really is at 0 mph, and calm water really is 0 knots of wind. A dash or an Unavailable label means there is no trustworthy value to show, and the app doesn't fill that gap with a zero, a guess, or a stale reading presented as current.
The Dashboard also refreshes smoothly for readability, but what it can show is limited by the fix underneath it. A steady display doesn't mean an accurate one — the GPS cell is the honest indicator of fix quality.
03Recording trips and background behavior
How do I record a trip?
Recording is always manual. Nothing starts on its own.
- Make sure Trip Information is the visible widget (it is available in every profile — it may be labeled Ride Information or Flight Information depending on your profile).
- Tap the small chevron at the top edge of the widget card. A control panel appears just above it.
- Tap Start.
While a trip is idle, the widget shows “Ready to record — show controls” as a hint.
Where did the controls go?
They hide themselves. The control panel closes automatically after about 8 seconds of inactivity, when you tap elsewhere on the screen, or when you swipe to a different widget. Tap the chevron again to bring it back. Any tap inside the panel restarts the timer.
What do Start, Pause, Resume, and Stop do?
- Idle — only Start is offered. It begins a new recording.
- Recording — Pause freezes the trip; Stop finishes it and saves it to History.
- Paused — Resume continues the same trip; Stop finishes it.
A paused trip doesn't accumulate distance or moving time, and it doesn't hold background location. Stop finishes the trip and saves it — it does not delete anything.
What gets recorded?
Distance, total time, moving time, average speed, maximum speed, and the route itself (coordinates and times, plus altitude, speed, course, and accuracy where the fix provided them). Where they were available, the app also saves the place name and weather at the start and finish. Values it couldn't measure are stored as unavailable rather than as zero.
Does recording continue when the screen locks or I switch apps?
Yes, while the trip is Recording — that is what the iOS location indicator means when you see it. Recording relies on the app's While Using the App access plus a background location session that lives only for the duration of an active recording. A Paused trip does not hold background location; it is released when you pause, when you stop, and when the trip ends.
What is the Live Activity?
If it is enabled, an Active Trip Live Activity appears on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while you record. It shows recent speed, distance, moving time, average and maximum speed, the recording state, and your profile, with a Pause/Resume control. There is no Stop button on it — tapping Finish in App opens the app to the Dashboard, where the usual Stop confirmation lives. If you resume a trip from the Lock Screen while the app isn't in the foreground, open the app afterwards to confirm recording has picked up as you expect.
The Live Activity doesn't require notification permission. It has its own switch at Settings → Live Activity → Live Activity during trips (on by default), plus the system's per-app Live Activities switch, which the same section reports. Turning the app toggle off during a trip removes the current Live Activity; turning it on applies to your next trip.
Why might background recording be interrupted?
Background recording is best-effort. iOS can suspend or terminate any app to protect battery and memory, and several things make that more likely:
- Low Power Mode.
- Very poor GPS conditions, or extended time without a usable fix.
- Heavy memory pressure from other apps.
- Force-quitting the app from the app switcher.
- Turning off Location Services or revoking the app's location access mid-trip.
Recording progress is checkpointed to your device roughly every 10 seconds, so an interruption usually costs at most about that much — though some loss is still possible.
The app was interrupted mid-trip. What happens next?
Nothing resumes silently. The next time you open the app, a Recover Trip sheet appears with three choices:
- Resume — continue recording the same trip from its last saved progress. Time while the app wasn't running is not counted, and no straight line is drawn across the gap.
- End Trip — finish and save it from the last saved progress.
- Discard — remove the interrupted trip, after a second confirmation.
If the trip was already in the middle of finishing when the interruption happened, only End Trip and Discard are offered.
How should I test this safely?
Mount the phone before you set off, start the recording while stationary, and leave it alone. Don't interact with the app while operating a vehicle. If you want to check the background behavior, start a recording, lock the screen, take a short familiar route, then stop and compare — a walk works fine for a first test.
04Profiles, instruments, and widgets
Which widgets does each profile have?
Swipe the bottom card sideways to move between the widgets available for your instrument. The dots below the card show how many pages there are.
- Car — Trip Information, Distance Performance, Acceleration Performance, Level.
- Motorcycle — Ride Information, Distance Performance, Acceleration Performance.
- Bicycle — Ride Information only, so it shows a single dot.
- Marine — Trip Information, Level, Tides, Marine Conditions.
- Aviation — Flight Information and Level, on either instrument.
What's in Trip Information?
Distance, Duration, Average Speed, Maximum Speed, Altitude, and your current coordinates. The coordinate cell can be tapped to copy the coordinates. The widget is titled Trip Information, Ride Information, or Flight Information depending on the profile, and it also owns the Start / Pause / Resume / Stop controls.
What are Distance Performance and Acceleration Performance?
Timed measurements for Car and Motorcycle only.
- Distance Performance records elapsed time and speed at the ¼ mile, ½ mile, and 1 mile marks.
- Acceleration Performance records 0–60 mph and 0–100 mph elapsed times.
Both use the same flow. Tap Prepare Test — timing does not begin when you tap it. The app first waits for you to be genuinely stationary with a good fix, then starts timing once real vehicle movement is confirmed. You can Cancel at any point, and after a result you get New Run, Retry, or Discard. The first time you prepare each kind of test in an app session, a short Before You Start notice appears; tap I Understand to continue.
Results depend on GPS and sensor conditions and are estimates. Use performance timing only as a passenger, on a closed course, or in another lawful, controlled environment.
Why won't Prepare Test become available?
The widget states the reason in words rather than just disabling the button. Common ones:
- “Stop vehicle to arm” — the app needs you to be stationary for a short observation period first.
- “Waiting for accurate GPS” — the fix isn't good enough to time a run.
- “Location permission required” — grant location access, then try again.
- “Motion data unavailable” — the device can't supply the motion readings this needs.
- “Another performance run is active” — only one run can be prepared or running at a time.
What is the Level widget?
One adaptive widget that shows pitch, roll, and heading with a silhouette matching your profile. It is called Vehicle Level for Car, Boat Level for Marine, and Aircraft Level for Aviation, and it is available on those three profiles. Motorcycle and Bicycle don't have it — a phone mounted on a leaning vehicle doesn't give a meaningful level reading, so the app leaves it out rather than showing something misleading.
By default the readings are relative to the device; see Location, GPS and sensors for how to set a vehicle-relative reference. Either way, this is an approximate reading, not a certified instrument.
What is the Speed Color Ring?
A thin colored ring around the speedometer dial that changes with your actual speed, so the same color means the same speed regardless of which dial you are looking at. Turn it on or off at Settings → Dashboard → Speed Color Ring (on by default). It is purely visual — the needle and the number are unchanged — and it appears on the Car, Motorcycle, and Bicycle speedometers only.
05Weather, tides, and Marine Conditions
Where are these available?
Weather, tides, and Marine Conditions are available where the relevant NOAA service has coverage and a suitable reporting station. Each of the three depends on a different service and a different set of stations, so it is normal for one to work in a place where another doesn't. The GPS and motion instruments — speed, distance, altitude, heading, pitch, roll — do not depend on NOAA and are not limited to those areas.
Where does the weather come from?
From the U.S. National Weather Service, part of NOAA. You will find the source disclosure at Settings → Legal → Weather Data Sources. National Weather Service coverage is primarily the United States and its territories; outside its coverage, the app shows weather as unavailable rather than substituting another source. An observation comes from a NOAA/NWS station near you, not from your exact position, so it can differ from local conditions and it can be delayed or unavailable.
Why is the weather cell blank or unavailable?
- Location access. No position means no weather lookup.
- Coverage. Outside National Weather Service coverage there is no observation to fetch.
- Network. Weather needs an internet connection. Offline, the app keeps showing the last reading it has and stops making requests until you are back online.
- Station availability. If the nearest station has no usable current observation, the app tries a couple of nearby ones and then reports it honestly.
Weather refreshes on a schedule rather than continuously, so it won't update on every screen refresh.
Where do tides come from?
From NOAA CO-OPS (the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services). The Tides widget appears on the Marine profile only, and it is station-dependent: it appears when there is a suitable NOAA CO-OPS station near enough to your position, and it is unavailable when there isn't.
There are two different kinds of number on the widget:
- Current Water Level is observed — measured by a physical station.
- The curve and Next Tide are predictions — astronomical calculations. Real conditions like wind, pressure, runoff, and storm surge aren't part of a prediction, so the two can differ.
Heights are relative to MLLW (Mean Lower Low Water), the standard nautical chart reference. A negative height is below that level.
Why does the tide station seem far away, or the data look mismatched?
The app picks the nearest suitable station on your device. NOAA maintains separate station lists for measured water levels and for tide predictions, and a location may be nearest to one station for the observation and a different one for the predictions — so they aren't guaranteed to share a station.
What is the Marine Conditions widget?
Also Marine-only, also NOAA CO-OPS, and also station-dependent. It leads with wind — sustained speed, gust, and the direction it blows from, shown as a compass arrow and as text such as “From SW · 244°”. Below that it classifies the wind relative to your heading: Headwind, Tailwind, Crosswind · Port, or Crosswind · Starboard. It shows the station name, its distance, and the observation time, and it is labeled NOAA CO-OPS · Not for navigation.
Why is the headwind/crosswind line showing a placeholder?
That line needs a true heading, because NOAA reports wind bearings in degrees true. Until the app has one, that line alone shows a placeholder — the wind speed, gust, and direction still display. See Location, GPS and sensors.
Why is water temperature missing?
Water temperature is a best-effort extra. Many NOAA stations don't report it, and when that is the case the reading is left out rather than shown as 0. That is the common outcome, not a fault.
How often does marine data update?
NOAA publishes these observations every 6 minutes, so the app doesn't ask more often than that — requesting faster couldn't return anything new. Readings older than about an hour stop being presented as current.
What actually leaves my device for each of these?
- Weather — your coordinates, rounded to the precision the National Weather Service interface accepts, go to the National Weather Service to find the right station.
- Tides and Marine Conditions — the request carries a station ID only. Your coordinates aren't included; the nearest station is chosen on your device from a cached station list.
- Place names — a coordinate goes to Apple's geocoding service to turn it into a readable place.
- The route map — map imagery comes from Apple Maps.

Can I use this data for navigation?
No. Weather, tide, and marine readings are for general reference. They may be delayed, incomplete, unavailable, or from a nearby station. Don't rely on them alone for marine navigation, aviation, emergencies, or any other safety-critical decision — consult official sources and local authorities.
06History, routes, playback, export, and deletion
What's in History?
The History tab holds your completed records in three categories, selected with the segmented control at the top: Trips (completed trip recordings), Distance (completed Distance Performance runs), and Acceleration (completed Acceleration Performance runs). Records are listed newest first, with favorites at the top of their category. Only completed records appear. Pull down to refresh.
How do favorites work?
Tap the star on any card. Favorited records move to the top of that category while keeping their order among the other favorites. There is no limit, and favoriting doesn't change any recorded value. Favorites are per category — a favorited trip doesn't affect the Distance or Acceleration lists.
Can I rename a record?
Yes. Use the ellipsis menu on a card, or the menu on the record's detail screen, and choose Rename. Reset Title appears once you have set a custom title and puts the default name (Trip 5, Distance 2, and so on) back. Renaming changes only the title — not the date, the measurements, or the record's position. The creation date isn't editable.
What's on a trip's detail screen?
In order: the trip title and date, Trip Summary (Total Time, Moving Time, Distance, Average Speed, Maximum Speed), Route, Elevation, Start (location and weather), Finish (location and weather), Details, and an Export menu.
Everything shown is the saved snapshot from that trip. Opening a trip doesn't fetch current weather, request your current location, or recalculate anything. Distances and speeds are re-displayed in whatever units you are currently using; the underlying saved values don't change.
Why is a section on my trip empty?
Because that piece genuinely wasn't captured. A trip recorded without a signal, or without an internet connection, still keeps all its core measurements — it just has less context around them. Sections show an honest unavailable state instead of a placeholder number or a made-up place name.
If a trip was saved without an internet connection, the app tries to fill in the missing place names and weather the next time you open that trip with a connection. Place names have no time limit. Weather does: NOAA keeps roughly a week of station observations, so weather for an older trip can become permanently unavailable, and the app says so plainly instead of promising a retry.
What does the colored route line mean?
The route map colors each part of the path by the recorded speed at that point, using ranges suited to the trip's profile. A legend below the map lists the ranges present, in your current units. Changing your units changes the labels, not the colors.
Parts of the route where no speed was recorded are shown as Unknown, which is deliberately distinct from stopped. If the recording has gaps — a pause and resume, or a stretch without a usable fix — the map shows them as gaps. No straight line is drawn across a gap.
The route map says “Route unavailable”
That trip has no saved route points. Trips recorded by an older version of the app, or recorded without a usable location fix, have nothing to draw, and the app won't invent a line between the start and finish. Export isn't offered for those trips either.
How do the map controls work?
- The recenter control brings the map back to fit the whole route after you have panned or zoomed. It only moves the camera — nothing saved changes.
- The full screen control opens the route player.
What does route playback do?
It replays the saved recording on a full-screen map with a moving marker, showing Speed, Elevation, Duration, and Coordinates for the point currently under the marker. You get a timeline you can drag, play/pause, and jump controls that move ±5% along the route.
Quick Play is on by default and shortens playback based on how long the trip was. With it off, playback follows the recorded pacing — and either way, stretches with no usable GPS are skipped rather than played out as dead time. Playback is read-only; it doesn't change anything about the saved trip.
How do I export a route?
Open the trip, then Export, then Export GPX or Export CSV. Before every export, a Share Route Data? confirmation tells you exactly what the file contains:
- GPX — the trip's exact route coordinates and times, plus altitude where it was recorded.
- CSV — the same, plus recorded speed, course, altitude, and accuracy. CSV uses standard SI units (meters, m/s).
Cancelling means nothing is written or shared, and the confirmation appears every time. Exports contain the raw recording, not the smoothed line you see on the map, and they contain no place names, weather, or record identifiers. Once a file has been shared to another app, service, or person, it can't be recalled.
How do I delete a record?
Use the ellipsis menu on the card or on the detail screen and choose Delete. A confirmation names the record before anything is removed. Deleting a trip also deletes its saved route.
Is there a way to delete everything at once?
Not inside the app — records are deleted one at a time. To remove everything the app has stored on your device, delete the app itself; that removes its local storage, including trip history, routes, settings, and cached weather and tide data.
Can you recover a trip I deleted?
No. Deletion happens on your device, and because the app never uploads your trip history, we hold no copy to restore — no server, no backup on our side, no support tool. Your own device backups may include the app's data along with the rest of your device, and any trips you exported remain wherever you saved or sent them. Please export anything you want to keep before you delete it.
07Recording Reminders and notifications
What are Recording Reminders?
Optional local notifications that let you know when an active or paused recording may need your attention — for example, a recording still running long after you parked, or movement starting again while a recording is paused.
They are generated on your device. They are not push notifications, there is no server behind them, and they aren't marketing. Reminders only suggest: tapping an action does exactly what the matching Dashboard control would. Nothing starts, pauses, resumes, or stops a recording on its own.
When is notification permission requested?
Only from something you tap: the Enable Recording Reminders step during first-run onboarding, turning the Recording Reminders switch on while permission is still undecided, or the Allow Notifications button in Settings. The app doesn't ask at launch and doesn't ask again once you have answered.
What kinds of reminders are there?
One switch covers all of them; the app decides internally which one fits the situation:
- A recording still running after you seem to have finished (with wording suited to Marine and Aviation profiles).
- Movement detected while a recording is paused.
- A recording that has been active without movement for a long time.
- A reminder that a recording is still active after you have left the app.
Each carries two or three actions — End, Pause, Resume, Keep Recording, Keep Paused, or Open App.
Where's the Snooze button?
There isn't one, by design. Dismissing a reminder (swipe it away) is the snooze — the app takes that as acknowledgment and holds off on that kind of reminder for a while.
Why is delivery best-effort?
Two separate things have to happen. Delivering a reminder that has already been scheduled is iOS's job and works even if the app isn't running. But noticing that a reminder is warranted requires location samples — and while the app is in the background, that only happens while an active recording is receiving them. A paused recording holds no background location, so resume detection is only reliable while the app is in the foreground.
Detection is also deliberately conservative: poor accuracy, missing speed, or ambiguous movement produces no reminder rather than a guess.
I'm not getting reminders
- In-app switch. Settings → Reminders → Recording Reminders should be on.
- Permission. The Notifications row in that same section shows Allowed, Needs Access, or Denied. If it isn't Allowed, tap Allow Notifications (if offered) or Open Settings.
- iOS notification settings. Open iOS Settings → Notifications → Smart Motion Dashboard and confirm Allow Notifications is on and a banner or Lock Screen style is enabled.
- Focus. A Focus mode or Do Not Disturb can silence or delay delivery.
- Location. Reminders are driven by the same location samples recording uses. Weak or absent location means little to detect.
- Whether a reminder was warranted. The thresholds are conservative on purpose — short stops, traffic queues, creep, and drift are meant to produce nothing.
How do I turn reminders off?
Settings → Reminders → Recording Reminders, switched off. That stops the app scheduling or delivering any of them. You can also turn off notifications for the app entirely in iOS Settings; the app's Settings screen will then explain that reminders can't be delivered rather than pretending they can.
Are reminders the same thing as the Live Activity?
No, and they are independent. The Live Activity is the continuous trip status on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, and it doesn't require notification permission. Reminders are occasional event-driven nudges that do. You can have either, both, or neither.
08Privacy
- No account and no sign-in.
- No third-party analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- No app backend of ours. We operate no server that receives your data, so your trip history doesn't reach us.
- Trip history and recorded routes are stored on your device, and stay there until you delete a record or delete the app.
- Motion sensor readings — the ones behind pitch, roll, attitude, and the level features — are processed on your device and are not transmitted.
- Automatic requests while you use the app: your coordinates go to the U.S. National Weather Service for weather; tide and Marine Conditions requests carry a station ID only; a coordinate goes to Apple's geocoding service to produce a readable place name; and the trip route map uses Apple Maps imagery. These go directly from your device to those providers.
- User-initiated sharing is separate and always explicit: a GPX or CSV export is written only after you confirm what it contains and choose where it goes, and emailing us for support shares only what you choose to include.

09Safety and accuracy
Smart Motion Dashboard is a supplementary reference tool, not a certified instrument. Please read this section before relying on anything the app shows.
- GPS and sensor readings are estimates. Speed, distance, altitude, heading, pitch, and roll depend on satellite geometry, signal quality, and the sensors in your device. They can be delayed, degraded, or unavailable.
- Surroundings matter. Tunnels, parking structures, urban canyons, tree cover, and bad weather all degrade a fix. Magnets, metal mounts, cases, and wireless chargers can disturb the compass.
- Placement matters. The Level widget and the attitude instrument measure the device's orientation, not your vehicle's, unless you set a level reference — and even then the reading is approximate.
- Weather, tide, and marine data are informational. They may be delayed, incomplete, unavailable, or measured at a station some distance away.
- This is not a certified automotive, marine, or aviation instrument. It is not an approved speedometer, compass, attitude indicator, depth sounder, or flight instrument, and it must not be used as one. It does not replace your vehicle's own instruments.
- Not for navigation and not for emergencies. Use official charts, instruments, services, and authorities.
- Follow local laws, including speed limits and laws about mounting or using a phone while driving.
- Stay attentive. Never interact with the app while operating a vehicle, vessel, or aircraft. Set it up before you move, and use performance timing only as a passenger, on a closed course, or in another lawful, controlled environment.

Never send passwords or Apple Account credentials — we will never ask for them. Please don't attach exported routes or other sensitive files unless we ask and you choose to share them.
